Allstate: The Worst Insurance Company for Consumers

Millions of people, including drivers in Georgia, purchase car insurance through Allstate Insurance Company. The state requires drivers to buy minimum amounts of auto insurance coverage, and many people choose Allstate as their insurer.

Allstate advertises that consumers are in “good hands” when they select the company for their insurance needs. However, the American Association for Justice (AAJ) ranked Allstate as number one on its list of the worst insurance companies in the United States.

Why is Allstate the Worst Insurance Provider for Consumers?

The AAJ cited several reasons why Allstate was the lowest-ranked insurance provider for consumers.

Those reasons included, but were not limited to:

  • A high number of customers have filed complaints against Allstate for poor service.
  • In the 1990s, Allstate worked with a consulting firm to develop a strategy to get claimants to accept unreasonably low settlement offers.
  • The evidence indicates that Allstate insurance adjusters are encouraged to use deceptive tactics to protect the company from liability, including some reports indicating adjusters are offered bonuses when they can reduce claims.
  • Allstate fights claims to avoid paying fair settlements when claimants refuse to accept low settlement offers.

The AAJ is not the only source that ranked Allstate poorly for their services to consumers. The National Association of Insurance Commissioners investigated the company and determined that Allstate receives more complaints than almost all of its competitors. The company has also been fined for using bad faith practices.

Why Does Allstate Treat Consumers Poorly?

It is unclear why Allstate ranks so low or why the company would use unfair tactics to avoid paying valid claims for consumers. However, one might speculate that the company is protecting profits over the best interests of consumers.

We should note that Allstate is not unique in its desire to increase profits. Many insurance companies use tactics to reduce the amounts they pay to settle claims.

You expect your insurance coverage to be available when you need it. However, an insurance company does not want you to use your insurance coverage. The company makes a profit by collecting more in premiums than it pays out in claims.

Because Allstate and other insurance providers are for-profit companies, they view paying claims as a loss instead of a cost of doing business. They promised to pay claims when they accepted the insurance policy. Unfortunately, the company is more about profits than customer service.

How Can You Receive a Fair Insurance Settlement for Your Car Accident Case in Georgia?

If Allstate handles your car accident claim, you must prepare to fight. Steps to consider include:

  • Document all financial damages with proof of the expense or loss. If you paid a bill or out-of-pocket expenses, keep copies of the receipt or form of payment.
  • Obtain statements from your employer proving the amount of lost wages incurred because of your injuries.
  • Carefully track out-of-pocket expenses. Keep copies of proof of each cost.
  • Ask your physicians to include detailed notes explaining the extent of your injuries and the severity of impairments in their reports.
  • Do not agree to provide Allstate with a recorded or written statement. Be aware that the company often records telephone calls, even if they do not inform you of the recording.

The insurance adjuster may offer you a quick settlement. The settlement amount is likely much lower than your claim is worth.

You are not required to accept the settlement offer. You can negotiate for a higher amount.

Should I Hire a Griffin Car Accident Lawyer to Deal With Allstate Insurance Company?

Generally, you improve your chances of receiving a fair payment by hiring an experienced personal injury lawyer in Griffin, GA. Attorneys understand how companies like Allstate handle claims.

Car accident lawyers know the tactics insurance companies use to undervalue claims. Therefore, they guard against these tactics and are prepared to deal with them should the company try to cheat you out of the money you deserve.

Insurance companies know the attorneys in your area with successful track records. They know which attorneys always settle claims and which attorneys are willing to litigate cases. An insurance company might fight a claim, but it will carefully weigh the costs of the fight when an experienced attorney is involved.

Allstate prefers that you deal directly with them instead of hiring an attorney. If you do not have legal counsel, you might not realize that you are giving up your right to additional compensation for your economic and non-economic damages. Instead of trusting an insurance company whose top priority is its profits, trust an attorney whose only priority is to get you the best possible settlement for your car accident claim.
